Muted reaction to Pew report

The report by the Pew Global Attitudes Project on how Westerners and Muslims view each other, was widely reported and discussed by bloggers.  There has also been some comment in newspapers around the world but there has been a deafening silence from the British media.

Since the story broke in the Guardian on Friday,  the only further comment from a UK source was this piece on the BBC website.  For Britain, the survey's key finding was that the prevailing attitudes among Muslims in Britain are closer to those of people in Islamic countries than elsewhere in Europe.  In short, British Muslims tend to be more anti-Western than their counterparts in France or Germany.  Yet, if you try doing a News Google on 'Pew Report' - there is very little comment from the UK.  Even papers in Ireland and Iran have picked up on the British angle to the story but, as far as I can see,  few mainstream British news organisations have commented.

The gulf between the blogosphere's interest in the story and the media's lack of coverage seems odd.  It's almost as if they are avoiding it.  Like many people, I have my own thoughts on why Britain's Muslims might be more anti-Western than elsewhere in Europe but I have a football match to go and watch, so that will have to wait until a later post.  For now,  ponder on the lack of UK media coverage of these findings.  What's that all about, I wonder?

Possibly because they don't know how to spin it into a 'more good news about Islam' story? It goes against all the rote judgements of the liberal media... however, I'm surprised by its lack of outing in Telegraph and Times, normally papers robust enough to handle stuff like this.

I hope you are going to further enlighten us - such a dreary performance (barring Rooney) is hardly worth postponing anything for. My personal opinion is that it's a product of where these groups originate from - German Muslims mainly originate from Turkey and the French from North Africa. Ours come from the Islamist strongholds of rural Pakistan and are encouraged by the our bizarre implementation of multi-culturalism to think of these areas as their true home.

Isn't it a funny thing about us that we will watch some enemy grow and grow in power, the way we did Hitler for example, and sit on our asses and do absolutely nothing until that enemy does exactly what we knew they were going to do, and attacks us.

THEN we will build up our armed forces and try to stay ahead of the damage being inflicted on us and fight back, instead of doing what any sane person would have done and stomped the bastards into the dirt before they came at us.
