Harry's Place sued by Muslim extremist group

I'm a little late with this news so you may already have heard that Harry's Place is being sued by Mohammed Sawalha, the president of an outfit called the British Muslim Initiative. Earlier this month, David T reported on an intervew that Mr Sawalha had given to Al Jazeera in which he spoke of "the Jewish evil" in Britain. Mr Sawalha denied that he had said this and demanded that Harry's Place remove David's piece and print an apology. Harry's Place refused, hence the libel action.

Two years ago, a BBC Panorama investigation found that Mr Sawalha had raised funds for Hamas and accused him of being actively involved in planning the organisation's military strategy. The British Muslim Initiative is one of the groups behind this weekend's Islam Expo. Last week, the New Statesman's Martin Bright pulled out of Islam Expo because of the group's links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and its action against Harry's Place.

Harry's Place was the first blog that I read regularly and one of those that inspired me to start my own blog. For the last five years or so it has been campaigning against Islamic extremism and the craven response to it by some on the left. If Harry's Place loses this case it will have grave implications for free speech and for the fight against those terrorist sympathisers who masquerade as moderates while hiding in western countries.

As the HP team said, they can't fight this case on their own. They need help. So far, they haven't said what that help will look like but presumably they are going to set up some sort of fighting fund.

For now, though, just publicising this malicious libel action and the comments made by Mohammed Sawalha is a good place to start.

"Harry's Place" or "How I learned from Jews how to hate muslims".

It's a mammoth task, but here's hoping that Mohammed Sawalha can get that Jewish hate site shut down for good and you can go back to complaining about the Chinese.
